I imagine most of us are staying inside on this cold February day. As we wait for a days that won’t give you frostbite inside of 0f fifteen minutes, check out the iPad Magician, Simon Pierro on YouTube. He has some very cool magic tricks using an iPad in front of live audiences.

We will have an Apple Quiz Bowl. Whether you think you know the entire history of Apple forwards and backwards or if you just know that Apple is in California because it’s on the back of your iPhone, we will have a great time. We will also have time for Q&A for problems and issues you might be having. Bring your questions and whatever devices you want.
We look forward to seeing you there.
Calculators
Today Tapbots finally released an update to Calcbot on iOS. I used Calcbot for many years as an alternative to the stock iOS calculator mainly for the expression view and history tape. Calcbot is also available as a Mac app and can sync your history through iCloud.
When Calcbot wasn’t updated for the iPhone 5/5S, I ditched it in favor of Kalky. Kalky is gesture-based for the delete, clear, use result and save functions. It definitely doesn’t look as nice as Calcbot, but it has the features I want and works fast.
Most have agreed that the best calculator on iOS is PCalc, however it is way more than I need on a normal basis. For now I’ll stick with Kalky but Calcbot certainly is a great alternative.
Newsletter Archive
For the last 36+ years, the Mini’app’les User Group has distributed a newsletter. Many people have contributed to what is now our documented history. I just finished scanning the last issues and converted all to text in a PDF format. You can find them all under the Newsletter section of this site.
Please review and let me know of any problems such as miss-scans or rotated pages. Occasionally during the Summer months, the July and August issues were combined. I have scanned all issues that I had access to. If you have other issues of the newsletter, please contact me and we can arrange to include them in this archive.
We are also looking at a way to add a search capability or a method to index this information.

The next Mini’app’les meeting is Tuesday, February 17th, the third Tuesday of the month, at the Hackfactory (3119 E. 26th Street Minneapolis, MN 55406). Just when you think you have iCloud figured out, Apple adds iCloud Drive. At 7:00 p.m., after looking at some recent news and articles, we will talk about what iCloud Drive, if you should use it, and how it compares to other similar cloud file storage services. We hope you can join us to see if this service is valuable to you or not.
We look forward to seeing you there.
