Headless Mac

Do you have an old Mac sitting around doing nothing? Say one from the last 10 years or so (I’m not talking about your IIfx, original iMac or G5). Or maybe you want to pickup a new or few years old Mac mini and setup a file server, backup server, or media server. Now let’s make it “Headless” by disconnecting the monitor, keyboard and mouse! Can we access it from across the house from another Mac or even across the country?

Let’s discuss breathing new life into your “fairly” old Mac.

Please join us at the next Mini’app’les meeting!

Spring Cleaning

*** Please note: This meeting will be both in-person and online. ***

Spring is finally here!… although this week it’s feeling more like Summer. Spring time is the time for cleaning. Clean up around the house, clean your car and yes, it’s a good time to clean out old tech that is lying around the house. If you’ve got an old iPhone, iPad or Mac lying around gathering dust, you might as well sell it, donate it or trash it (or rather recycle it).

It’s also a good time to audit your current devices and do a little “Spring Cleaning Audit”. Make sure your device settings are correct concerning privacy, backups, passcodes etc.

Let’s review what you should do to your devices before getting rid of them and do a quick checkup on our current ones to ensure you are secure, private and running smooth.

Please join us at the next Mini’app’les meeting!

Browser Extensions

NOTE: This month’s Zoom-only social meeting will be a little different. We are going to start covering advanced topics. This will range from deep dives into more complex apps, automation, scripting, and Hackintosh. All are still welcome to join.

Extensions allow you to add simple or advanced features and functionality to your web browser. They can change the way tabs work, integrate your favorite note-taking service, get Gmail notifications, grammar-check your writing, and even play games.

Several group members will share some interesting and useful browser extensions they are using.

Mac Menu Bar Apps

*** Please note: This meeting will be both in-person and online. ***

The Mac Menu Bar is always up at the top of your screen and is a very quick way to view information, change settings, execute commands, or launch apps and files. There are several helpful built-in Menu Bar icons, but you can go even further by enabling menu bar icons for apps you already have installed. There are also lots of dedicated apps that only run in the Menu Bar.

Several group members will share some of their favorite Mac Menu Bar apps. If you’ve always wondered what that particular icon was in our Menu Bar’s, this the meeting for you!

Please join us at the next Mini’app’les meeting!
